A hack to get your endorphins going!

Does the word “exercise” freak you out?  Make you go “Ugg”? Guilt you because you paid big bucks for the gym membership and went maybe twice? Maybe you’re just too busy to go ….and a ½ hour on a treadmill sounds more painful than poking your eyes with needles. We get it!

You know that exercise is good for you. You’ve probably heard that it releases endorphins which help with mood. You get it! What if I told you there’s a different way to get those endorphins going?  We’re all about helping you!

Here’s a simple and easy hack that may help start the “endorphin ball” rolling again for you.

According to our own Dr. Darlene Mayo, MD, a neurosurgeon and neuroscientist, your brain has the magical power of visualization. That is, by visualizing something, you can actually trick your brain into thinking you are really doing the thing you’re thinking about.  Research has shown that, for example, if you visualize yourself running, your brain can inform your body that you actually are running. Movement without moving! Hard to believe?

It’s true! Researchers from the Cleveland Clinic Foundation investigated the benefit of imagining exercising a muscle. They reported that just thinking about exercise helped maintain muscle strength in a group of subjects. (*)

Don’t get us wrong!  We know there is NO substitution for a regular exercise routine, but maybe this simple visualization can help you feel motivated again… and one small change in the right direction builds momentum.  That’s because the brain will begin to build a new neural pathway… neuroplasticity at work.

Can Serenata Wellness help you get back on track? You betcha! Not only on track to get your endorphins going again, but maybe thinking differently about exercise. Maybe even using a word like “movement” will be the shift your brain needs to “wrap your head” around it.
